Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ'S/Common Questions

I interviewed, what happens next?

That’s easy:  I share the videos with the review panel ONLY, it takes a day for them to receive them as some are traveling abroad this summer (to Ghana!) and are unable to join us live. After we all score each candidate, I review the scores and assessments and we rank you. We have to then check with financial aid as some candidates have not yet finalized their financial aid. If you are one of those, contact your GCU counselor immediately and get this done—awards cannot be finalized without this! This scholarship is called a “last dollar” scholarship that is awarded after everything else. Ultimately, we hope to have all acceptances and rejections out to you by July 1st.

I was accepted, now what?

If you are in Arizona, stop by, come visit this summer!  I am here all summer and my research lab usually has a lot of things going on. If not, see you in September, please make arrangements with me to check in once you are moved in, if local, do the same. We will be in touch!

I wasn’t accepted, now what?

If you were not accepted, I am terribly sorry, we have tons of students who are in financial need, and who are quality scholars and students. We only have 4 scholarships to give each year in this phase of the NSF grant. BUT still: come to GCU, visit!  Same as above.  If you are in Arizona, stop by, come visit this summer!  I am here all summer and my research lab usually has a lot of things going on. If not, see you in September, please make arrangements with me to check in once you are moved in, if local, do the same. I have lots of contacts and sometimes projects with industry and we can see about setting you up for success!

Can I connect with you?

Absolutely! Get on LinkedIn with me no matter what!  https://www.linkedin.com/in/prof-jeff-la-belle/

I was accepted: Does living on or off campus affect the scholarship amount?

Yes, it can, but its unlikely: be sure your GCU counselor has the most accurate information about where you plan to live.

I was accepted; What happens if I change majors?

Students need to be enrolled in a "S-STEM eligible discipline", which is some science majors, and most engineering, math, or technology majors. If you leave a STEM major to enroll in a non-STEM major, then you will not be eligible for this scholarship. If you are considering another major, talk to us so we can see if we can help.
